1706. Becky's son. 5/11/12. emails from both Cathy Chapin and Joanne Albertson: Becky would appreciate prayers for her son in Houston undergoing tests. She is going to be with her son when he enters hospital. Son's name is Louie. He is single. The family had a traumatic event a couple of days ago when her son received a phone call to come in right away. Dr said he had stomach cancer and it was serious. Later that afternoon he was called back in and told they had his report mixed up with a 55 year old man. Her son, Louie is 30 and the cancer diagnosis was in error. Please keep Becky and son in your prayers.
1705. Jeanne Seligmann. 5/11/12. email from Jeanne: Well, I finished the second round of chemo. Got very tired last night (Thursday) and today am tired and weak. My hgb was down to 8.0 yesterday. If it goes down any further when I get it checked on Monday, I will need more blood. My tiredness is probably due in part to the chemo and in part to the low hgb. Will have to take it easy until I feel better. The rest of my blood work was down, too.

Started at 9AM and got to Karen's for supper at 6PM. Then went to Kirsten's orchestra concert for 7PM. A REALLY FULL DAY!!!! Had the chemo first and then had to be admitted to the hospital for the 2 units of blood. Lots of waiting time! Everything went well and Karen thought I looked a lot better when we got there tonight. My color is much better. I'm a little tired, but it was a long day. So far, no nausea, but they give you medicine before the treatment that works quite well. Also have pills for nausea if I need them. The next 3 days will be only chemo in the afternoon and should only take about 2 hours. The regimen for the drug I'm on is a 28 day cycle, with chemo the first 5 days and off the rest. Probably will have to have some blood checks in between, but no other chemo. Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers.

So a big thank you to the many friends from Winter Ranch from Willie/Billie Mills for remembering and honoring my dad, Dee Miills. He really was quite a guy and we all still deeply miss him, but we know he is now in a place where his hearing is perfect and that he is continuing to keep a watchful eye on his family. 1564. Alegria Family. Friday, December 23, 2011 email from Lloyd Buchholz: In regards to the Alegria family: some of the things that have taken place, first off Ceci needed new glasses and someone took her in and took care of that. The housing situation is that they are in a nice house that was donated to her by an organization called Azateca. She could get help to do the labor that was needed. They also are supplying every thing that is need to get the house in good shape so our bunch of guys got all of the sheet rocking done and all the painting done. So all she needs is furniture and that is coming in so the house should be finished shortly after Christmas. end of email from Lloyd. Please keep them in your prayers and check wit Lloyd Buchholz or Jerry Rezac as to what they need or do not need.
1563. Alegria Family. Wednesday, December 21 email from Pastor Johnson: Dear Charles. Last week Ron and I visited the two new families in south Tower Road. Returning home we went by the Alegría family and found her and Ceci home. She showed us what the men had done and they were so happy to have a house in reconstruction. I prayed with the two and expressed our support for them. They read their Bibles and seemed quite upbeat. The men, Jerry in particular have been good to do the dry wall, put a boiler or water heater outside for future hot water. They were thrilled with the hope. The walls are in, the plumbing in the process and the electrical work in process. I have been amazed what the Azteca Foundation on Cesar Chavez and Hwy 32 Bus.has done to provide the materials but the man hours of work in the house they cannot provide. But they are moving ahead and the house while unfinished is secured with doors and locks, I believe.
1562. Phyl & Don Jewell Long time former residents of WR. Monday, December 19, email from card shark Phyl: We really miss our trips to Texas and the people in Winter Ranch. There really aren't many that we know any more. Don is in the care center in Greene and I moved into a connecting apartment. That is so handy - I can go over to see him at any time - and I do go after breakfast until time for him to go to dinner and then again in the afternoon and evening. They finally diagnosed him with Parkinson's disease after many tests and trips to the doctor. His legs are weak, so has to use a walker or wheelchair to get around. He is also somewhat confused at times. I guess that is part of it. I am fine, but just couldn't handle him at home by myself even though he has lost a lot of weight. Only about 150# now - Take care & have a Merry Holiday season. Don & Phyl
1561. Lucille and family of Marvin Duncan. Monday, December 19, email from Lucille forwarded by Paul Wilson: Marvin went to be with the people and the Lord up in heaven early this morning. 3:45 A.M. He went very peacefully. Just quit breathing. So we as a family are rejoicing for such a peacefull passing. He had really "Hung in There" and put up a good fight. He had withered away to skin and bones Thank all of you all who have been praying for us and please continue to pray for me and the family. Service arrangements are still pending. Yours in Christ, Lucille Duncan.
1560. Ron and Morgi Stickler. Wednesday, December 14 email from Morgi:Good to hear from you two. We are glad that Elinor is a good nurse. Guess we are all taking our turns at that, ha ha. I took good care of Ron, or at least he said I did and now he has been doing the same for me. Know what you mean about the time and treatments---after Ron's cerv spine surgery he couldn't take the two pills every 4 hours. He got really weird on us, so we gave him 1 pill every 2 hours for a couple of weeks---pretty rough not really getting any quality sleep, but with God's help, we made it through that rough spot. Good talking to you. Please keep us posted. Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS! and a BLESSED NEW YEAR.
1559. Morgi and Ron Stickler. Monday December 12 email of Prayers of Thanksgiving from Morgi Stickler: Well, Charles, we are certainly glad to hear that you are on the mend. Our prayers for you have been answered. We also praise God every day that Ron and I are recovering. His eye is almost healed and looking normal again. He still has some muscle weakness in his neck since his cervical spine surgery this summer, but doing well. I just stopped using my walker (for the most part) today and am doing really well. Praise and Thanks to God for the healing and the great Doctors that we have. Morgi

1552. Elijah James Stephens (nephew of Pat Strickland) Friday, November 18 email from Pat to Pastor Johnson and forwarded to me for posting: Would you keep my great nephew Elijah James Stephens on your prayer list. He was born with fluid on his head which his parents knew almost from the beginning but chose to carry him anyway. He has a stent in but now has a cyst on his brain that is forming fluid that will not drain through the stent so has to have surgery right a way. If the Lord sees him through that, he will need heart surgery. He is only a few weeks old and this is also hard on his little brother Isaiah Jacob. His parents love the Lord and pray for mercies for Elijah. Pat Strickland
1551. Craig Schilling (Son of Faye De Boer) Friday, November 18, 2011 email from Faye: Hi, Charles and Elinor, we hope that you are both doing fine, and returning to better health. I have a prayer request for my son, Craig Schilling, who was injured in a farm accident on Tuesday, the 15th. He was putting air in a large tire on a farm implement when it blew up, throwing his l2 feet across the machine shop. He was very confused when his wife found him inside the house sometime later. He was taken by ambulance to the local hospital, and transferred by air to Sioux Falls, SD. Craig had a badly dislocated shoulder, fractured rib, causing a punctured lung, and major injury to his right knee, along with other smaller wounds. God, and Craig's special angel (his father) were with him at every moment. Two CT scans of his head have come back with perfect results. We need prayers of healing, and of thanksgiving. We are all so blessed. Love to all. Ed & Faye De Boer
1550. Ron & Morgi Stickler. Wednesday, November 16 email from Morgi to and forwarded by Pastor Johnson: Dear Pastor Gordon, Just a note to let you know that I am doing well. Praise to God, my knee replacement surgery went well. Thanks to all for the prayers. At the same time I was in the hospital, Ron had a severe bleed in his right eye. His pupil couldn't even be seen, but follow up with his opthamologist and a ct scan revealed no unusual problems, so, we are both on the mend. Praises for that.

1544. Me, Charles. Thursday November 10.UPDATE #1540. Prayer of Thanksgiving. I had my follow up exam from my surgeon yesterday. He removed the sutures and said everything looked fine. He said he was actually surprised that I had not had to be readmitted to hospital due to infection or other complications. He said the surgical sight was so contaminated during the surgery that it was near impossible to keep it irrigated and clean. He released me for light activity (no lifting heavier than a gallon of milk) and for travel and any activity I felt strong enough to do. What good news and evidence of the power of prayer and the mercy of our Lord and Savior.
1543. WR Church. Prayer of Thanksgiving for a successful first service of the 2011-12 Season. Sun, November 6, email recap from Ron Berg, Chairman of the WR Church Board: The service today went very well. Only 83 in attendance although it was the same number as last year. 1541. Lee Miska. Fri, October 28,email from Marlene: UPDATES #s 1531, 1521, 1520, 1515, 1511, 1470, 1443, 1437, & 1432. Lee's back to a normal eating situation now but not really gaining weight as the chemo is the culprit of that situation the Oncologist tells us.We believe the surgery took a lot from him when they did the carotid surgery. Lee goes in for his 4th Chemo on Mon (happy Halloween) and hope he continues to do well. He did have another transfusion a week or so ago but doing fine as his white count was down again but the Oncolgist assures us this is a routine thing also. Has 2 more chemo sessions after this Monday so keep him in your thoughts and prayers also.
1540. Me, Charles. Fri. October 28. I continue to recover slowly. I'm up and walking around inside house. I've been off all pain med for three days. Appetite has not returned and hardest thing is to get food down but Elinor and daughters are putting pressure on to eat. I'm down from 255 pounds last year to a wrinkly 170 pounds yesterday morning. Please continue to keep Elinor and I in your prayers.
1539. OOPS # 2. Grace Johnson. Last paragraph of Pastor Johnson's October newsletter. "Recently Grace was diagnosed with macular degenerationin her right eye. We appreciate your prayers." Please keep both Grace and Pastor in your prayers.
1538. OOPS # 1. Fri, October 7 email from Patty Cuellar in WR Office. Don Bernier, has cancer in the base of the esophgus, test and treatments, and surgery will follow. Thank You! See you soon. Patty Cuellar.
1537. Mon October 24. I'm back after some surgery and an abundance of pain. But your prayers and especially the prayers of our Pastor Johnson are pulling me through. For those of you on his email network the following will be old news, but he has done such a complete report of events, I will post his emails. Subsequent to his last email I was released from hospital on Saturday October 22 and just today felt good enough to sit at computer. Many Thanks to you all for prayers and to Pastor Johnson for keeping you informed in the interim.
1536.Thu, October 13 email from Pastor Johnson:Friends of Winter Ranch, Today at noon, I had a call from Charles Kroll just before he was to go into surgery in Michigan. Some recurrent problems of his bladder, a fistula to be removed in his urinary track and a colostomy. I prayed with him over the phone and I am trusting God to bring him through once again. Include Elinor and the family in your prayers.
Charles has been the communicator for many of us and our prayer needs. So let us be faithful to our good brother who needs God's undertaking. I will let you know as soon as I may know more information. Thanks for praying. Maybe you will be next?? Your pastor looking forward to November 6, Gordon Johnson
1535.Sat, October 15, email from Pastor Johnson: Dear Winter Ranch folk Let's keep remembering Charles and Elinor Kroll in our prayers. I have not heard more recent news. But no news is good news in Him. Also Morgi Stickler undergoes a knee tansplant on Nov. 8 and asks prayer for her and Ron who is doing better but will now be the caregiver.
1534. Sun, October 16, email from Pastor Johnson: I had a phone call from Charles at 2.00 pm from the hospital. He came through the operation well on Thursday; he is still in ICU and with some pain but recovering. Thanks for your prayers. He asked me to give a prayer of thanksgiving which I did. No word of when to be discharged. Let us keep him in our prayers. He has been through a lot but is looking to the Lord.
Also a reminder that Morgi Strickler has a knee replacement on November 8 and Ron, with his health problems, will be her care giver.
Also a reminder that The theme for this Winter Ranch Series is: The King is Coming - Matthew's Version, I have sent the bulletins to Judy Good who will have them ready for November 6. We look forward to your coming when you can make it.
1533.Thu, October 20, email from Pastor Johnson: Dear Winter Ranch friends, Today at 5.00 pm I had a call from Charles Kroll from the hospital and a report that I will try to pass on, hopefully accurately. He came through the operation. They removed the fistula and installed the colostomy. There was some transitioning in the functioning of the colostomy but now it is there. The good news is that he is improving slowly and takes a few steps in the room. But the not so good news is that they found some slow growing cancer cells in the area around the fistula; those cells were a problem from 2000; they are slow growing. They will need to consult more as to how they would treat that condition. His blood count was low and they gave him a transfusion today. He has no appetite or desire to eat, so pray he might gain strength. He sounded some weaker but considering all he has been through, he is trusting the Lord for improvement. Elinor talked briefly with Grace. Let us keep Charles and Elinor in our prayers.
I leave tomorrow at 7.15 am for Reynosa. I will be giving two workshops to Hispanic pastors in the morning and afternoon on: Integrity in the Spiritual Life and Integrity in Leadership--some of the topics of my second and third book. We look forward to November 6. Some have written stating their arrival time. Pray for a good year in ministry together.
Your pastor, Gordon

Lee is scheduled for his third chemo on Monday the 10th and if all stays the same every three weeks until he reaches six total and then determine the rest of the treatments if needed. Dr. Marek is very pleased as he can see the shrinkage of the mass on Lee's upper chest. We are all so thankful to have Dr's so close here in the Valley and in easy driving distances. Thank you all for the cards, calls, and many wishes for his recovery. It means an awfully lot to us. Prayer is a mighty fighter! Again, continue all of them. See you both soon, I guess. Pastor Johnson stops in at any of the hospitals Lee is at and even stopped at rehab when he was there. He visited here at the house a few days ago too and is looking forward to church services starting. God Bless you both and get well soon too. Lee and Marlene.

Last week (Tuesday, I think it was) they took away all of his medicines except for 2 to see what happens AND it has improved him VERY MUCH. He can comprehend us now and talks much clearer and walks somewhat better. His eyes look good. They show that "the ole Marvin" is still in there! He is very thin but eats fairly good. One of the nurses "hit" on that idea and I think that she is right. She talked to the Dr. and he o.k.ed it. Just wanted all of our friends & family to know the "good news". Love to all, Lucille

1520. Lee Miska. Tue, September 6, 2011. email from Marlene: Hello to you both, Lee got out of rehab. on Friday and is doing very well. He walks the house and addition with the help of a walker every hour and does exercises they taught him at rehab the rest of the time. His appetite is really picking up. He is a busy guy now. Saw the family doctor today and he says he's doing great. Hoping to hear from the oncologist tomorrow with the date of the next chemo treatment but he will be ready for it!
